Two soundworks looped together into one installation, this piece focuses on my own inherited knowledge as part of a complex Caribbean-European mixed-identity, in the first soundwork, and then what emerges and gets passed on from this knowledge, in the second one (a sound collaboration with Vjolla Emiri, who did its soundscape).

The notion of hybridity is central to my work, and is an easily-relatable notion. The soundworks were inspired by conversations from a series of ritual-workshops in which hybridity was explored and discussed, from the perspective of mixed-identity experiences. These ritual-workshops, with invited collaborators, are part of my artistic process and act as a research method to inspire my text-based practice.

The ritual-workshops are part of my ongoing project exploring the colonial and anthropocentric legacies of generational knowledge, from a mixed-identity perspective (RITUALS TALKING DECOLOGY).

This artwork was first exhibited as part of the ‘Bli Noe Annet’ Group Exhibition at KHiO in 2025, as part of my MA in Art & Public Space graduation show.

Technical info: The fallen branches require to be hung from above. The installation covers 1-2m2 and although originally exhibited as part of a larger installation with carpets, the soundwork installation itself does not need carpets. The soundwork was originally played from a directional speaker hidden in the branches, in the group exhibition. I am aware of the limitations that could arise from this in a more public, open space setting like the 4th floor of Deichman Bjørvika. The soundwork can easily be played via three headphones, one for each tree stump, which can be sat on. The soundwork will then require three players, bluetooth or otherwise, to play the sound from, either hidden inside the tree stumps or fixed otherwise.
