FUSION IDENTITIES - THE RECIPE
FORMAT (2025)

digital collage, participatory recipe notebook.

34 cm x 51.4 cm (300 dpi)
14.8 x 21 cm.

The digital collage speaks to the political legacies of food knowledge inherited over layers of time. It questions the aspects of these political legacies that get unlearned, relearned and transformed into new recipes, over time.

The participatory notebook invites the viewer to share recipes, transformed or not transformed, real or fictional. In this way, it invites the contributor to consider the process of learning, unlearning, relearning, a transformation that occurs in food-making and inherited/passed on recipes. The contributors’ recipes, and the ingredients they use, are part of their ‘knowledge luggage': a living archive of food knowledge that is carried with them, continuously re-shaped over time.

The notebook accompanying the artwork ultimately becomes a follow-up artist-book artwork, each time FUSION IDENTITIES - THE RECIPE FORMAT is exhibited (a limited copies artist-book, merging digital collage and own texts, inspired by the contributed recipes and their ingredients). The recipe artist-book is published exclusively for the contributors of the exhibited participatory notebook. This work was first exhibited at the DA2 modern art museum in Salamanca in 2025 over a four-week period, and its follow-up artist-book is in publication phase.

Technical information: the notebook should ideally be displayed under the work, with a note on the side with instructions as to how to fill in the contributions.
I am flexible as to how best to go about doing this and open to any suggestions from the curatorial team.
